OSPAR has agreed a coordinated reporting programme for environmental concentrations of radionuclides associated with the nuclear sector. Contracting Parties report national monitoring data where available for the indicator radionuclides H3, Tc99, Cs137 and Pu239,240 in seawater and for Tc99, Cs137 and Pu239,240 in fish, molluscs and seaweed. Data are reported to OSPAR annually using an agreed reporting format. The data are assessed in Periodic Evaluation reports.

OSPAR AGREEMENT ON A MONITORING PROGRAMME FOR CONCENTRATIONS OF RADIOACTIVE SUBSTANCES IN THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT (2005-08, 2018 Revision)

Cf. Agreement 2005-08: Data should only be reported to OSPAR for:
H-3, Tc-99, Cs-137 and Pu-239,240 for surface seawater (0.5 -4 m);
Tc-99, Cs-137 and Pu-239,240 for biota (fish, molluscs and seaweed)
Sampling and analysis carried out as per national monitoring programmes and requirements.
