Theme E - Eutrophication

The OSPAR Eutrophication Monitoring Programme is an integral part of the OSPAR Eutrophication Strategy. OSPAR has developed a common assessment framework to assist Contracting Parties to identify, in a consistent way, areas where anthropogenic nutrient inputs may cause pollution. This also enables periodic assessment of the eutrophication status of the OSPAR maritime area and the progress made towards the Strategy’s objective. The framework provides the basis for enabling Contracting Parties to assess and classify the eutrophication status of their maritime waters under the Common Procedure for the Identification of the Eutrophication Status of the OSPAR Maritime Area (“Common Procedure”, agreements 2005-3 and 2013-8).
