[ProgrammeDescription]Description of the monitoring programmeThe abundance of marine birds directly indicates their quantitative status. The programme addresses abundance both during the breeding season (number of breeding pairs) and in the non-breeding season (number of individuals along the coasts and at sea). Data is collected as part of national monitoring programmes, but there is sometimes international coordination: UK & IE - Seabird Monitoring Programme; NL, DE & DK - Trilateral Monitoring and Assessment Programme (Wadden Sea). Non-breeding data also collected as part of Wetland International's International Waterbird Census.
